The Athletics have agreed to terms with their 2018 first-round draft pick, outfielder Kyler Murray, who also plays quarterback at Oklahoma, the MLB team announced Friday.

Murray’s contract included a roughly $4.6 million signing bonus, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, and will allow him to play football this fall at Oklahoma.

It is not uncommon for players to play both college football and professional baseball at the same time. The seasons are during different times of the year and several men have done it in the past.

Even NFL players have done it. Russell Wilson played in the minors for the Rangers while starting at quarterback for the Seahawks.

Magee spent part of last season with the Falcons, playing in two games. He was also on their practice squad last year.

He has also spent time with the Ravens, Rams, Seahawks, and Browns.

In 2015, Kramer survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound after buying a SIG Sauer 9mm weeks earlier. The bullet traveled through his chin, tongue, sinus cavities and exited from the top of his head. He spent nine months in recovery and had a cranioplasty to fix a chunk of his skull. He also received brain rehab at two clinics after being released from the hospital.

Kramer told the Detroit Free Press in 2016 that he doesn’t believe his depression is linked to football, saying he was not diagnosed with concussions during his career. At the time, Kramer said he believed he had been clinically depressed since his early playing days and treated himself with antidepressants sporadically after retiring following a forgettable 1999 season in San Diego.

The Bills have tinkered with Josh Allen as a starter, but they’re not ready to commit to the project yet.

Via Joe Buscaglia of WKBW, Bills coach Sean McDermott said Thursday that the first-rounder would open training camp as the third-string quarterback.

The Bills will continue to alternate A.J. McCarron and Nathan Peterman with the first team, and make Allen earn his reps.

Allen got a few reps with the first team in minicamp, and left those players with a positive impression.

But the Bills will enter camp with questions in the middle of their line and a middling set of pass-catchers, so the prudent play might be to let Allen sit until he has a better chance to succeed.

Of the 500 women who auditioned, Wilkins was one of just 43 chosen for the two-month training camp. (In the end, some 36 ladies — including performers from the previous year — make the squad.)

The Edmonton Eskimos added Owens to their negotiation list, according to TSN.

That doesn’t mean Owens is heading to the CFL by any stretch of the imagination, but it does mean that Edmonton could talk to him and see if there’s any interest. Given how long Owens has been talking about wanting to keep playing, maybe he’d consider it.

Owens hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2010 with the Bengals. He briefly played for the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League in 2012.

Rehearsals would last between three and six hours. And there is no showing up in a ponytail and sweatpants; cheerleaders are required to come camera-ready, with styled hair and full makeup.

For practices, Wilkins said she was paid $8 an hour. For appearances, she was allegedly paid a flat fee of $100 her first year, $200 her second and $300 her third (pay increases are capped at $500). She says show-group appearances were capped at $250, no matter a member’s tenure.

The Cowboys organization had no comment for this story.

Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez had a look on his face that was one part bewildered and one part annoyed as he stared down pitcher Luis Severino for a couple seconds after the first out of the Tampa Bay Rays’ fifth Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

He’d never had a pitcher charge in from the mound and steal a popup from him in front of the plate, let alone do so with a last-second leaping grab.

I looked at him and I was like, ‘This is actually happening! Beef said. I said to him, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t help but laugh at that. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

And this is where the story takes the wrong turn for Mickelson. Because that’s what it was a ridiculous, understandably human moment for one of the era’s greatest golfers.

I tried to hit it as close as I could on the next one, and you take the two shots and move on, he said. (I tried) to take advantage of the rules as best as you can. In that situation, I would gladly take the two shots over continuing that display.

The whole episode is just one more bizarre chapter in Mickelson’s tortured history with this event nothing quite as painful as the double bogey on the 72nd hole that cost him the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot, but confirmation of what we already know.

If Mickelson’s outburst was a shot at the USGA, he wouldn’t be the first player to rip the conditions at Shinnecock: Bryson DeChambeau burst out earlier this week, calling Thursday’s round clown golf.

Either way, it’s a remarkable turnaround from Mickelson’s optimism from earlier in the week, when he was hoping to complete the career Grand Slam.

Mickelson eventually shot 11-over 81 on Saturday, which tied his worst score in a U.S. Open. He is 17 over for the championship.

Nobody knew his score on the hole. First, the USGA computers at it as an eight, then a nine, then finally a 10. Mickelson himself had no idea, according to multiple witnesses on the course, and the situation had become something of a running joke inside the ropes.

Based on what I’m hearing, there’s no reason to believe Rodgers won’t sign an extension this summer or that it won’t make him the highest-paid player in the league.

At this point, it’d be a shock if it didn’t get done.

One of my favorite things that happens during the offseason went slightly unnoticed this week: a Super Bowl guarantee. This one came from Chargers defensive end Melvin Ingram on Monday:

We [haven’t] been to the playoffs for a while. I think it’s going to be crazy. This Super Bowl we’re going to win; we’re ready. We’re grinding. We’re just going to keep grinding. We’re going to grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind no matter what. That’s what our main objective goal is, to win a Super Bowl. Keep fighting. Keep playing. Keep grinding. No matter what. That’s the goal: We’ve got to bring a Super Bowl to the city.

But what I do understand is this: the glaring dichotomy of the league’s tremendous efforts to rehab someone who obstructed justice in a murder vs. the league’s treatment of Colin and Eric.

Two days after three-time All-Pro safety Earl Thomas announced via tweet that he does not intend to attend minicamp or any OTAs until his contract situation is resolved, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll responded with regret.

I’m just disappointed that he’s not here and all that, Carroll told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. But we’ll let it play itself out.

When asked if he expects Thomas to be a member of the Seahawks in 2018, Carroll told Pelissero, I’m hoping so. He’s under contract.

Thomas is under contract, but it’s an expiring contract that pays a base salary of $8.5 million.

In attempt to make more money or force a trade, Thomas will lose money because of this holdout. Players under contract who skip mandatory minicamp are subject to fines of $14,070 for the first day missed, $28,150 for the second day, and $42,215 for the third day totaling $84,435.

Carroll said during OTAs that he expected everybody to show up to Seattle’s mandatory minicamp. Thanks to Thomas, that was not the case Tuesday.

When news broke last month about the Supreme Court’s decision to allow states outside Nevada to legalize sports betting, many assumed the NFL would immediately become infatuated with finding a way to monetize that opportunity.

Jenkins and Long are among several players who voiced support for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who in 2016 began kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality.

The NFL owners adopted a new anthem policy on May 23 that will allow for players who do not wish to stand for the anthem to remain in the tunnel. Teams can be fined if players do not stand and show respectduring the anthem. Trump also said players who chose not to stand shouldn’t be in the country.

A day later, the Yanks were informed that ESPN had decided to pick up their July 8 game, which forces them into a three-games-in-24-hours situation.

I feel like that’s too tough of a schedule for us, Robertson said. We deal with a lot of those (Sunday Night Baseball) games… but this time I would like to see it changed.

My biggest concern is player health. That’s a really tough schedule. We’ve had a tough schedule so far with a lot of rainouts and a lot of games that are made up later on.

Hopefully at some point (the July 8) game could be changed. That would probably be in our best benefit. We just have a lot of games going there in a quick amount of time.

A report by USA Today stated the Yankees are threatening not to do interviews with ESPN if their July 8 game stays a night game.

I don’t think we’ve gotten that far, Robertson said. We’ve had some internal discussions about what we could do potentially, but let’s hope it doesn’t get to that point. We’d like to see it get changed without any big ruckus getting started.

eagles_107Johnny Manziel showed flashes of his old football self in his CFL debut.

And not just with his arm and legs.

On multiple occasions Friday night in Hamilton, the Tiger-Cats’ newest quarterback got an earful from Toronto Argonauts defenders. And Manziel gave it right back.

What’s interesting about all this is in many ways there might actually be more pressure now on Boone the rest of the way. The Yankees obviously want to avoid the wild-card game, and with this AL East race expected to go down to the wire, that makes every game and every decision all that more important.

Callaway and the Mets? Well, at this point, even Mr. Met is afraid to watch:

Oh, the Mets also haven’t won since that headline declared things couldn’t get much worse. With two Subway Series games still to play, this sets up an exciting weekend at least for the tabloid headline writers.Hamilton, Reds end 13-game losing skid vs Cards with 6-3 win

Mychal Kendricks on report he is signing with the Browns: 1/2: No, it’s not accurate. I don’t know who the (bleep) said that. That (bleep) is (bleep). Whoever said that (bleep) is (bleep). That’s all I have to say, man. I’m not really talking to anybody else about it…

The Eagles selected Kendricks in the second round of the 2012 draft. His best season came in 2013, when he registered 113 total tackles and four sacks.

The Browns finished 2017 without a win and missed the playoffs for the 15th straight season. They acquired quarterback Tyrod Taylor from the Bills in mid-March and selected Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick in this year’s draft.

Tigers first base coach Ramon Santiago is away from the team with his wife about to give birth, so Alan Trammell filled in. Trammell, who now works as a special assistant to Tigers general manager Al Avila, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame and have his No. 3 retired later this summer.

Trammell played for the Tigers from 1977-1996 and managed them from 2003-2005.

Bauer threw 113 pitches, increasing his major league-leading average to 109.3 per start. Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals is second at 106.2. Bauer has thrown at least 100 pitches in all 13 starts this season.

eagles_108Bringing in new offensive coordinator Norv Turner is obviously a big change for Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

But things are changing for the Panthers wide receivers too under a new administration, which makes it just as well they have a mostly-new group of targets.

After trading for Torrey Smith and signing Jarius Wright, the Panthers used their first-rounder on Maryland wide receiver D.J. Moore. That influx of talent means that anything they get from holdovers like Curtis Samuel and Damiere Byrd will be a bonus, and a reminder of how different things are from last year, when the offense faltered for a lack of weapons.

I’ve been feeling good. I’ve been trying to do the best I can, Rodriguez said. My mentality right now is just thinking about to get more deep into games. Because as a starter you want to get more deep into a game than just 5 2/3 all the time.

The Orioles will counter with rookie David Hess, who has been one of the team’s few bright spots this season. Hess (2-2, 3.07 ERA) took a hard-luck loss in his previous outing against the Blue Jays when he allowed just one run and five hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six innings on Thursday.

Hess took the loss in his only career appearance against Boston on May 20. He was charged with five runs and eight hits over just 4 2/3 innings but has performed much better since that game.

I think that the confidence is definitely growing, Hess said. I think that with every start, I get a little bit smarter, I guess, about what I need to do to have success and how to go about my business on an everyday basis. So, yeah, I think there’s definitely progression with that and I’m excited that progression has come to where it is right now.

Baltimore shortstop Manny Machado was held out of the lineup in the opener because of an illness. His status for Tuesday is uncertain.

eagles_109Sean McVay’s Rams took the league by storm last autumn, scorching opponents with an air-and-ground attack that led the NFL in points.

The team’s newest defensive stars still can’t believe what they’re seeing.

Fellow star cover man Marcus Peters, added through a swap with the Chiefs, agreed: It’s crazy unique.

It’s one reason the Rams roll into September as a not-so-sneaky pick to appear in Super Bowl LIII.

And just like last week, only the Tuesday practice is open to reporters. ( Click here to read our Darnold observations and takeaways from Day 1 of OTAs.)

All told, the Jets have 13 spring practices — 10 OTAs plus a three-day mandatory minicamp from June 12-14.

The Jets conclude OTAs next week, when they practice from Monday through Thursday. And just like the first two weeks, only the Tuesday practice is open to reporters next week.

All three days of the Jets’ mandatory minicamp will be open to reporters.

Darnold is competing with veterans Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater for the Jets’ starting quarterback job, after the Jets drafted Darnold third overall.

Bridgewater — who is coming off surgery to repair a serious knee injury — looked good in Week 1 of OTAs. Let’s see if he can keep that up in Week 2.

McCown re-signed with the Jets this offseason after being their starter last season, his first with the organization. McCown turns 39 in July. Darnold turns 21 in exactly one week.

At least Flowers has now joined the competition, rather than sitting it out.

Patrick Robinson spied Drew Brees stepping up to throw deep down the middle, sprinted back toward his own end zone and made an outstretched interception of a ball that initially looked to be thrown beyond anyone’s reach.

Impressive, was how Saints coach Sean Payton described the play by Robinson, a cornerback who is one of several recent additions aimed at strengthening a club that nearly advanced to the NFC title game last season.

The onset of offseason practices this week has provided Payton and his staff a chance to begin forging roles for players such as Robinson, as well as fellow newcomers such as linebacker Demario Davis, safety Kurt Coleman, receiver Cameron Meredith and first-round draft choice Marcus Davenport.

I’m going to work, do everything I can to learn the playbook and just grind, Scott said. By the time preseason rolls around, I’ll be ready.

The Saints hope they’ve bolstered the passing game by adding receiver Cameron Meredith during free agency. Meredith led Chicago in receiving two seasons ago, but is coming back from a major knee injury that wiped out his 2017 season.

On defense, the Saints cannot yet be sure how well 2017 starting end Alex Okafor will come back from his torn Achilles.

In the meantime, Davenport is expected to get a lot of offseason work as the Saints try to refine his pass-rushing skills in time for the fall.

He’s a tremendous worker, Payton said. He’s coming along really well. There’s a strength element you feel.

The Saints expect the linebacker group to be strengthened by Davis, a former defensive leader with the New York Jets, as well as the return of second-year pro Alex Anzalone, who started four games as a rookie before the rest of his season was cut short by a shoulder injury.

Both can play multiple roles.

I’m down with whatever my coaches want me to do, Davis said. I’m here to win.

Watt’s efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey earned the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, which honors players for both off-field charity work and on-field excellence.

This award is about the inherent good that lies within humanity, Watt said after receiving the award the evening before Super Bowl LII. “It’s about the city of Houston and its ability to overcome adversity at a time when it all seemed lost. It is about the hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country and all over the world who donated to a city they may have never been to, to people that they may never meet. But they donated simply because they saw their fellow humans going through a difficult time and they wanted to help out.

In Buffalo, LeSean McCoy and Dion Dawkins spent some serious time debating about what they actually heard.

At New Mexico, Bojorquez averaged 45.1 yards per punt in his two-year career, including 47.3 last season. He had 31 punts of 50-plus yards, including four punts over 70 yards.

Broncos running back De’Angelo Henderson is feeling fortunate to be alive — and ready to play football — after he was in what could have been a serious accident.

Henderson wrote on Instagram that he is dealing with only minor injuries and expects to be ready to participate in Denver’s Organized Team Activities.

“With OTAs a week a way and a season that I’m competing for a significant role, the most traumatic event I’ve probably ever had to deal with occurs,” Henderson wrote. “T-boned, airborne, flipped, and rolled. I plowed through my jammed door and exit my Jeep on my own. I’m truly blessed that God protected me through this accident. Without his favor I don’t know if I would’ve survived. I’m thankful to only came out with minor injuries and a few scrapes and bruises.bucks_433
